Title A name given to the resource Race, Class & Gender: Christina Chen’s Experiences as an Immigrant, Doctor, & Mother Description An account of the resource Jason Chen was fortunate enough to interview his grandmother, Christina Chen, about the obstacles and challenges she had to overcome as an immigrant and doctor in the U.S.  In 1968, shortly after the 1965 Immigration Act was passed as an effort based on reuniting immigrant families and attracting skilled labor to the United States, Christina left her home of the Philippines and began her journey to becoming a physician in California. Having to overcome new culture, being the role model for her family in the Philippines, all while being a mother, doctor, and wife proved how resilient Christina is.
